Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu (BJJ)
The class format usually starts with a warm-up of body movements followed by techniques on various positions. The class composition is mixed with colored belts. One of the dojo’s culture focuses on collaboration. It is everyone’s best interest to welcome new members and make them feel welcome,
Although competition in BJJ is a valuable learning tool, Maru Dojo does not push the "competitive agenda" on its BJJ students nor does it focus on training for competition. In order to hone in the BJJ skills, we do "pressure test" such techniques during the "rolling" part of the class.
If you don't like hitting the gym but still want to feel strong and centered, then try Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu (BJJ). It's a full-body workout that boosts your physical strength and endurance. BJJ is also a powerful tool for mental health. Imagine rolling on the mats, your mind laser-focused on each move. This intense concentration helps clear mental clutter and reduce anxiety. Plus, the endorphins released during training can lift your mood and combat depression. And, let’s not forget the sense of community. The BJJ atmosphere at Maru Dojo fosters a familial atmosphere — supportive, encouraging, and always ready to help you push your limits. You'll build friendships that go beyond the mats. So if you're looking to strengthen both your mind and body, give Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu a try. It’s a lifestyle.
BJJ is one of the most challenging discipline I have ever pursued. It will push your boundaries. You will be placed in an awkward position, but you will learn how to weather it through and develop mental toughness. It takes an effort. Consistency is the key but it will require patience on your part.
I could write more but it is best to discover for yourself what BJJ would mean to you. It will transform you both mentally and physically and it begins with a single step on the mat. I will be there in your “journey.” I will be your guide along the way.
